Elizabeth's first two tombstones that were "thrown over the hill" by feuding factions. Hazel Bach Craft retrieved both stones and set them up in a memorial garden at her home. She told me if it happened again she would bring another one home, and laughed about it.

Elizabeth's third stone, after the first two were "thrown over the hill." Hazel Bach Craft retrieved the first two and set them up in a garden at her home and said she would do it again if another one met the same fate.

John Back on the 175 acres on the Poor Fork he bought from his brother-in-law Thomas Robinson. His brother "Luwis"Back 100 acres on the Poor Fork land granted to Andrew Cope that Elizabeth later settled on, bought from Cope, and sold to son Lewis before her death. Both Thomas Robinson and Andrew Cope had moved from Knox Co KY to White Co TN the year before. Henry Back was on a different page in this tax year. Elizabeth may have been on the 100 acres she later occupied but the tax assessor chose to record a man's name.

Elizabeth and her three sons Henry, John, and Lewis listed together. Elizabeth's 100 acre tract was on the Poor Fork, entered by Andrew Cope. Cope did not give her a deed until 1825 indicating she probably bought it as a contract for deed. Elizabeth may have been there earlier but several tax lists are missing or unreadable.

    COUSINS, NOT BROTHERS
06 Feb 1785 is Henry Back Junior's date of birth, recorded in the catechism book that served as his familyís Bible for recording births and deaths, currently in the archives of the Breathitt County Library, Jackson, Kentucky.

18 June 1785 is Aaronís date of birth, recorded on his tombstone.

Aaron is the son of John Back and Margaret Huffman Back. They were double first cousins, not brothers. Aaron is not listed with his sisters on the deed disposing of his motherís land because he was just 17 years old at the time.
