William Garretson was a weaver by trade. In 1742, he moved a short distance across the Pennsylvania border where he married Miriam (Mary) Frazier, daughter of Alexander Frazier from Scotland, at the Kennett Monthly Meeting in York County, Pennsylvania. Shortly thereafter, they moved over sixty miles further west into what is now northern York County where he was appointed Overseer at the Newberry Township Preparative Monthly Meeting in 1746. In 1747,William was part of a group that obtained land to the southwest of Newberry in Warrington Township for the new Warrington Monthly Meeting house. The Warrington Preparative Meeting was organized on September 2, 1747, with 13 members including William Garretson and Joseph Garretson.
William and Miriam had ten children including Aaron Garretson, born in 1759.
